The Components To Look To In Glioblastoma

By Rob Sutter

As an article on GEN went into detail about, glioblastoma is regarded as a serious condition seen in the human body. However, not everyone will understand just how severe it is, so it should be noted that it is the most prevalent and aggressive form of brain cancer seen. The fact that it accounts for roughly 15% of tumors seen in adults is a point that is hard to overlook. Studies have been done in order to help on the matter and a couple of key components are worth looking into.

Before looking into the matter of research, though, it's worth noting what exactly makes glioblastoma tumors as severe as they seem to be. The report spoke about this in detail, saying that they possess many different types of cells, stem cells included amongst them. These are able to perpetuate cell growth and maintenance, which plays into the ongoing nature of this serious condition. This is one of the many reasons why it has the focus of various organizations on the matter, Voices against Brain Cancer included.

There was a study done by a group of researchers seen within the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital at McGill University. The group in question put to use an in vivo mouse model that would oversee the activity seen in human GBM-derived brain tumor initiating cells. FOXG1 and TLE were the two proteins looked into and it was determined that they could play into the shifts seen in various genes as well. It's clear that there is attention brought to the potential regulators of this serious condition.

I believe that it is important to look at certain methods in the name of research, seeing as how these cells can work to tremendous degrees. In addition, they may not be fully eradicated if typical surgery followed by chemo or radiation therapy is followed through with, meaning that the need to find more effective methods is strong. The researchers mentioned before made the claim that FOXG1 and TLE can come together. This would be done for the sake of causing tumor activity to decrease, if not stop completely.

Glioblastoma is oftentimes regarded as one of the more serious conditions in the body but the potential for improvement over the course of time is apparent. There are various stories to consider and each of them can possibly be found on the Internet with enough effort. If you were to look at one story from another, you may see that certain components will be given more attention than others. The potential that they can hold is a point that, in my mind, makes research that much more worthwhile.
